GIF Looper: change the repeat count

A GIF Looper changes how many times an animated GIF plays. Select Loop forever for continuous playback, Play once to stop after a single run, or a custom total count for a fixed number of runs. This tool edits the loop information while keeping the original image data.

Make a GIF loop forever or stop after one play

Infinite looping suits repeating animations and reactions. Playing once can suit a short demonstration that should finish on its last frame. The setting is saved in the downloaded GIF. Some apps convert GIFs to video or use their own player, so their playback can differ.

Total plays includes the first run

Choose 3 total plays and the animation runs three times, including its first run. Custom counts range from 2 to 65,536; use Play once for one run. Each cycle keeps the same duration. The tool does not append duplicate frames, so increasing the count does not multiply the file size.

Loop count, speed and seamless looping

Changing the loop count does not change the animation’s speed or smooth the transition between its last and first frames. Use GIF Speed Changer to change the pace, GIF Cutter to shorten the sequence, or Reverse GIF to play it backwards. Download the result before using it in another tool.

GIF Looper FAQ

Upload your GIF, choose Loop forever and click Apply loop setting. The tool saves an infinite-loop instruction in the GIF without changing its frames. Preview the result and download it before your uploaded file expires. The playback count applies in players that honor GIF loop settings.

Yes. Choose Play once and apply the setting. The tool removes the loop instruction so a compatible GIF player runs the animation once and stops on the final frame. Some social apps may convert the file or override its playback setting, so check the result where you plan to use it.

Yes. The field uses total plays: 2 means two complete runs, not one initial run plus two repeats. You can choose a whole number from 2 to 65,536. To play once, select Play once instead. To keep repeating without a limit, select Loop forever.

The tool edits only the GIF’s loop information and does not re-encode the image frames. Their dimensions, colors, transparency, order and timing remain unchanged. Adding or removing the small loop instruction can slightly change the file size; adding more plays does not add duplicate frames.

On this page, both previews follow their own saved playback counts. A finite animation stops on its last frame. In browsers with synchronized preview controls, click Restart preview to watch again. Other browsers use native GIF playback; reload the page to restart a finished native preview.

It changes the repeat count; it does not blend the first and last frames, add transitions or create a forward-and-backward sequence. A visible jump at the loop boundary stays visible. You can trim the sequence with GIF Cutter or adjust its pace with GIF Speed Changer before setting the loop count.

GIF Looper is free and requires no account. Files are uploaded for processing, become unavailable one hour after upload, and are removed by scheduled cleanup. The upload area shows the current size limit. Download your edited GIF before the file expires; changing a still GIF’s loop count does not animate it.
