Video to GIF: choose the moment that matters

A video to GIF converter turns a short video sequence into an animated image. GIFs play without sound and use a limited color palette, so the result can look different from the source video. tilvo lets you select a clip, keep the picture’s proportions, and control its dimensions, frame rate and loop count.

Convert MP4, MOV, WebM and other videos to GIF

MP4 to GIF is a common use, and this converter also accepts MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, M4V and MPEG files. The filename alone does not guarantee compatibility: the file must contain a readable video stream in a supported container. Browser preview support varies by format and codec; a file that cannot play in the browser may still convert on the server.

Balance GIF size and motion

Start with a short clip at 480 px wide and 10 FPS. Smaller dimensions, a shorter clip and lower FPS usually reduce the output size. Higher FPS adds more frames and can make motion smoother. The page shows your allowed clip length for the selected dimensions and FPS; the maximum is 60 seconds, and some combinations allow less.

Keep the full picture and choose when it stops

The first version resizes proportionally without cropping the picture or stretching its aspect ratio. Output is not enlarged beyond the original display dimensions and is capped at 800 px on either side. Choose forever, once or a custom total count that includes the first play. After downloading, use GIF Compressor, GIF Resizer or GIF Looper for further edits.

Video to GIF FAQ

Upload a supported video up to 50 MB, choose start and end times, set size, FPS and playback count, and click Convert to GIF. The selected scene is encoded on the server. Preview the result and download it before the file expires.

You can upload MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, M4V and MPEG (.mpg or .mpeg). The server checks the actual container and video stream. A corrupt file, unsupported codec or audio-only file cannot be converted. Browser preview compatibility may be narrower than server conversion support.

The maximum selected clip is 60 seconds. The actual allowance depends on output dimensions and FPS, with limits on frame count and total pixels. The settings show the allowance for your selection. If your clip is too long, choose a shorter range, smaller size or lower FPS.

This version keeps the full video picture and resizes it proportionally. It does not crop or stretch the video. You can download the generated GIF and use GIF Resizer to crop the animation afterwards.

GIF has no audio and uses a limited color palette. Conversion also resamples the video at your chosen FPS and may reduce its dimensions. The tool keeps the full picture, but the GIF is not a lossless copy of the original video.

Browsers support different containers and codecs. If preview is unavailable, enter start and end times manually and try converting; server support is independent of the browser player. The resulting GIF can be previewed after a successful conversion.

The tool is free and needs no account. Videos are uploaded to the server for processing. Files become unavailable one hour after upload and are removed by scheduled cleanup. The video upload limit is 50 MB; output size also has a 50 MB limit.
