How small do you need it?

We try combinations of size, colors, and frames to find a result that fits.

Moderate compression by default. For very small targets, you can allow stronger compression.

Allows smaller dimensions, fewer colors, and fewer frames, with more visible quality loss.

How to reduce GIF size

A GIF compressor reduces file size by optimizing frame data or changing dimensions, colors and frames. Start with moderate settings, then compare the animation and actual file size before downloading.

Compress a GIF to a target KB or MB

In automatic mode, enter 500 KB, 1 MB or your own target. Prioritize image clarity, smooth motion or a balanced result. Very small targets may need stronger compression. If the search does not reach your target, the tool shows the actual file size.

Resize the animation and reduce frames

In professional mode, lower the scale to resize your GIF while preserving its aspect ratio. Keep fewer frames or set a maximum frame rate to reduce animation data. Frame reduction preserves total duration by merging frame delays, but motion can become less smooth.

Reduce colors and adjust lossy strength

Try 128 or 64 colors for screen recordings and simple animations. Compare dithering options for images with gradients. Higher lossy strength may produce a smaller GIF, but can introduce noise. Check the result preview to choose a useful balance between quality and file size.

GIF Compressor FAQ

Upload your GIF, choose automatic mode and enter 1 MB or 500 KB as the target size. Every GIF has different compression potential, so a target is not guaranteed. If it is not reached, increase the target, allow stronger compression or adjust settings in professional mode.

No. We merge dropped frame delays into retained frames to preserve the recorded total duration. Motion can become less smooth, so low-frame-rate animations are best kept intact.

Fewer colors reduce the palette and can introduce banding. Lossy compression allows local pixel differences and can add noise. Adjust them separately and compare the preview to choose your trade-off.

Files are uploaded to the server for processing. Originals and results are temporary, expire 1 hour after upload, and are removed by a scheduled cleanup task. Download your result before it expires.

Currently, GIF input and output are supported, up to 10 MB and 1024 pixels per dimension. Frame count, duration, and total decoded pixels are also limited; very complex files may need to be simplified.

Try lossless frame optimization. In professional mode, keep 100% scale and all frames, set maximum colors to 256 and lossy strength to 0, then enable lossless frame optimization. An already optimized GIF may not shrink further. Resizing, removing frames or reducing colors changes the image or motion.

The tool is currently free and requires no account. Upload one GIF, choose automatic or professional mode, then preview and download the GIF output. Files up to 10 MB are processed on the server. Originals and results expire 1 hour after upload and are removed by scheduled cleanup.
