Reverse GIF playback without changing the picture

Reverse GIF puts an animation’s frames in the opposite order, from the last frame to the first. Each frame keeps its playback duration. The tool retains the original dimensions, displayed image quality and loop setting, and lets you preview the animation before saving it.

Reverse playback or flip the image?

Reversing changes the order of events: a falling object rises, or a closing door opens. It does not mirror or rotate the picture. Text and the position of objects within each frame remain the same.

Timing and file size after reversing

Every frame is kept with its original display duration, so the total playback time stays the same. Rebuilding the animation can change the file size. A reversed GIF is not necessarily smaller; use GIF Compressor if you also need to reduce its size.

Reverse a clip or adjust its speed

To reverse just part of an animation, trim it with GIF Cutter first, download the clip, then upload it here. To change the pace, download your reversed GIF and open it in GIF Speed Changer. GIF Resizer can crop or resize its picture.

Reverse GIF FAQ

Upload an animated GIF and click Reverse GIF. The tool changes the playback order from last frame to first. Compare both versions in the preview, pause or enlarge it if needed, then download the reversed GIF before your uploaded file expires.

The tool keeps the displayed pixels and dimensions of every frame, without reducing colors or applying lossy compression. It rebuilds partial frames before reversing their order so they display correctly. Encoding and file size may change while the pictures are retained.

Yes. Each displayed frame keeps its duration as it moves to the opposite position in the sequence. The total playback time and number of frames are retained. Very short or missing delays are interpreted using the same browser-compatible timing as the original preview.

The downloaded GIF retains the original loop setting, including infinite loops, finite loop counts and GIFs without a loop extension. The preview repeats for comparison, so it may keep playing even when the downloaded file is set to play only once.

A single-frame GIF is a still picture. With no sequence to reverse, the tool returns the original file without changing it. The page tells you when an upload has only one frame. You can still preview and download that file.

This tool reverses the whole uploaded GIF. For a shorter section, use GIF Cutter to select a time or frame range, download the extracted clip and upload it here. Reversing does not crop the image or create a forward-and-backward boomerang sequence.

Reverse GIF is free and requires no account. Files are uploaded for processing, become unavailable one hour after upload and are removed by scheduled cleanup. The upload area shows the current file limit. Download your result before the file expires.
